Amber Lomax

Room at the Top

January 4 – 19 2025

Artist Statement

My work is inspired by imagery from my dream life. Keeping a dream journal allowed me to observe the rich symbolism from my subconscious.  My observations and quest for better self-understanding led me to use this visual language as fuel for painting.

In a surreal dance between intuition and technical precision, I begin each painting by pouring the paint onto the canvas, I then work with the random outcome of the pour, giving my subconscious another chance to play. My use of colour is expressive and bold. I use transparencies and layering, further conveying the fragmentary, ethereal quality of an ever-shifting subconscious landscape. The boundaries between reality and imagination blur, encouraging contemplation and providing an entryway to a world where inner missives are transformed into a vibrant visual narrative.

Through the medium of dream imagery, I seek to create a space for viewers to connect with the universal language of dreams. The artworks serve as a conduit, allowing the observer to explore the interconnected threads of their own subconscious minds.
