Rowan Doucette

Threshold

Opening March 6, 2026,  6:30pm – 9pm

Show Run : March 7 – 22, 2026

Victoria-based artist Rowan Doucette will debut her latest solo exhibition, Threshold from March 7- 22, 2026. The exhibition brings together 20 new paintings alongside personal written excerpts highlighting the act of painting itself as the central subject.
Threshold features diary excerpts, miniature oil paintings, and thickly worked surfaces depicting gates in various states of opening. Throughout the work, the theme of shielding and revealing becomes a guiding force, as Doucette navigates the fine line between abstraction and realism.

I play with the line between realism and abstraction because I am interested in that moment when a work of art shifts the focus from looking into a window and rather pays attention to the quality of the window itself.

About the Artist

Rowan Doucette (she/her) is a painter, illustrator, printmaker, and writer, working and learning on the unceded traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. Her practice explores how art embodies us—and how we embody art. Using introspection as a central tool, Doucette investigates herself and the world around her, translating these reflections into paintings, prints, and writings. She holds a BFA in painting from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and continues her practice through apprenticeships, residencies, and experimentation.
