Xchanges Gallery presents a sculptural installation by Julie Boyd.
The exhibition is open to the public and children are more than welcome to attend. This up-and-coming young artist creates work that addresses the bodily experience; therefore, her work is dependent on audience participation. Her intention is to analyze and build structures that make apparent the idea that our interaction with the world around us is highly influenced, and determined by physical spaces.
Boyd’s research speaks to the direct impact produced by mediated spaces in relation to the human body, and the different perceptions held when pertaining to human interaction. Using a qualitative approach, the artist researches the viewer’s kinetic reaction to physical space in hopes to better comprehend the relationship between art, architecture and design, and how these elements are used to shape space. At the moment, Boyd uses only interior spaces as sites for her work, always keeping in mind that artwork and site are fundamentally linked. The form that her work takes at Xchanges Gallery will alter and be altered by the structure, as well as the institution within which the work is made.
The driving force behind the artist’s work is to provoke thought and stimulate the viewer to take action; she is interested in the reaction of the whole body, not just the mind. Her most recent piece at Xchanges Gallery concentrates on the development of new surfaces, as well as how viewers physically negotiate the space within the framework provided. Don’t hesitate to check out the show. You will never see anything like it!
