Interim is a group exhibition showcasing works by first year UVic MFA students Laura Dutton, Megan Press, Dickson Bou, and Dan Bernyk.

About the artists

Dan Bernyk was born and raised in LaSalle and Windsor, Ontario, where he earned a BFA degree at the University of Windsor. Currently, Dan is enrolled in the MFA program at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia. As a sculptor Dan is concerned with establishing a very physical presence for the viewer while investigating how material and process serve to intensify this experience. More and more Dan finds himself attuned to the personal and emotional connections that inform the decisions he makes, and how these decisions translate into the behaviours, actions, and reactions necessary to the creation and development of his work.

Dickson Bou is a sculpture/installation artist from London Ontario. He graduated with a BFA at the University of Western Ontario and he is currently in the MFA program at the University of Victoria.

Megan Press was born and raised in Burlington Ontario and is a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program from The University of Western Ontario. She is currently an MFA candidate at The University of Victoria. As a sculptor and installation artist she finds objects of interest around her and is intrigued by the possibility of their transformation. Through her practice she explores the ways objects can be reinvented, creating forms that are not static but always evolving and expanding. Objects can infinitely be manifested as sculptural formations and collected units can function as substitutes for human forms, as immersive environments, architectural structures, and as discrete objects.

Laura Dutton is a photo/video artist from Vancouver. She earned her BFA degree from Concordia University in Montreal and is currently enrolled in the MFA program at the University of Victoria. Her work explores the subjectivity involved in the act of seeing. By allowing images a certain freedom and fluidity and by working in a manner that is suggestive rather than descriptive, she attempts to reference underlying relationships between the viewer and the work while exploring the spaces between images.
