Démarche artistique
Les objets manufacturés apparaissent fréquemment dans mes œuvres, comme une chaise symbolisant la sédentarité ou une barque représentant le nomadisme,. Ces éléments illustrent la présence humaine, à la fois concrète et invisible, une trace de
notre passage et un rappel de notre consommation des ressources naturelles. La barque rouge fait écho aux réfugiés climatiques, aux populations déplacées par les incendies, les inondations, etc., aux êtres que j’appelle les sédentaires nomades, qui cherchent de nouveaux territoires à habiter, certains transportant leur habitat. Les animaux deviennent une métaphore, une caricature de ce que nous sommes et projetons. Ces animaux nous rappellent notre propre humanité et l’impact de nos actions sur le monde. Ils sont souvent intégrés dans mes œuvres de manière narrative; ils sont emportés dans des voyages incertains sur une barque rouge voguant sur des eaux troubles, à l’image de ceux qui luttent pour survivre dans un monde en pleine mutation. À travers la peinture et la sculpture, je tente de traduire la gravité de notre situation, tout en y insufflant une touche d’humour et de poésie, afin d’inciter à la réflexion sur notre futur.
Artistic approach
Manufactured objects frequently appear in my work, such as a chair symbolizing sedentariness or a boat representing nomadism. These elements illustrate the human presence, both tangible and invisible, a trace of our passage and a reminder of our consumption of natural resources. The red boat echoes climate refugees, populations displaced by fires, floods, etc., the beings I call sedentary nomads, who seek new territories to inhabit, some transporting their habitat. Animals become a metaphor, a caricature of what we are and project. They remind us of our own humanity and the impact of our actions on the world. They are often integrated into my works in a narrative way; they are carried on uncertain journeys on a red boat sailing on troubled waters, like those who struggle to survive in a changing world. Through painting and sculpture, I try to convey the gravity of our situation, with a touch of humor and poetry, in order to encourage reflection on our future.

À propos de l’artiste / About the Artist
François Michaud a étudié à l’École supérieure d’art Marseille-Méditerranée, en France. Il a enseigné la sculpture et le dessin à l’École des Beaux-Arts de Sète pendant 30 ans. Cette école d’art est reconnue comme le vivier du mouvement artistique de la «figuration libre ».
François Michaud est à l’origine du projet « Points de cœur du monde » qui a donné naissance à 14 sculptures de cœur de différentes tailles et matières installées aux quatre coins du monde dans différents pays : Chine, Brésil, Mexique, France, Canada.
Tout au long de sa carrière, François Michaud a été invité dans de nombreux pays (Kenya, Grèce, Maroc, Allemagne de l’Est, Brésil, etc) en tant qu’artiste en résidence, et chaque voyage a contribué à la perspective mondiale de sa vision artistique. C’est au Canada, lors de l’installation du 10e « Point du cœur du monde », qu’il a rencontré sa femme. Il vit et travaille aujourd’hui à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique.
Parmi d’autres projects, en 2022, François Michaud fut invité en résidence d’artiste en France pour réaliser une peinture murale de 130 m2 sur le thème du changement climatique dans une chapelle du jardin remarquable de Baudouvin à La-Valette-du-Var, France.
François Michaud studied at École supérieure d’art Marseille-Méditerranée, France. He taught sculpture and drawing at École des Beaux-Arts, Sète, for 30 years. This art school is recognized as the origin for the artistic movement « figuration libre ».
François Michaud initiated the project « Points de coeur du monde » which generated 14 heart sculptures of different sizes and material installed around the world in different countries: China, Brazil, Mexico, France, Canada.
Throughout his career, François Michaud has been invited in many countries (Kenya, Greece, Morocco, East Germany, Brazil, etc) as an artist in residence, and each travel has contributed to the world perspective of his artistic vision. It was in Canada, while installing the 10th « Point du coeur du monde » that he met his wife. He now lives and works in Victoria, B.C.
Among other projects, in 2022, François Michaud was invited to an artist residency in France to create a 130 m2 mural painting on the theme of climate change in a chapel of the Baudouvin’s remarkable garden in La-Valette-du-Var, France.
