Evan Locke’s “brass tack tact” presents works that are an aestheticization of 20th-century modernist painting; a coy expression of materiality and plasticity. A pseudo-construct­ivist slant reveals the failings and or successes of universal­izability in abstract painting. The self-referential paintings work to disclose only their own construction and material, but tease the viewer with a facade of colour and paint.
