The Weight of Time
September 6 to 22, 2024
We’re thrilled to kick off our 2024-25 exhibition season with The Weight of Time, opening on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The show will unveil the thought-provoking work of Chantal New, who delves into the complexities of contemporary existence through a masterful blend of drawing, sculptural installations, and large-scale photography.
New’s The Weight of Time is an evocative exploration of the harsh realities of our capitalist society, drawing inspiration from the stark architecture of carceral institutions. Her art powerfully addresses themes of grief, disconnection, and injustice, inviting viewers to confront the often oppressive nature of time in our daily lives.
The exhibition features striking black-and-white imagery paired with the rigid language of taxonomy and bureaucracy, highlighting the hidden violence embedded in our everyday systems. Newโs work communicates through deliberate omissions and gaps, focusing on what remains unseen rather than what is overtly depicted. Through her innovative techniques of fragmenting, cropping, and concealing, she reveals both the visible and invisible barriers that shape our world.
Donโt miss this opportunity to engage with art that challenges and inspires. Join us for an evening that promises to provoke thought and stir emotions.
