Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This weekend is your last chance to see ᒫᒪᐃᐧ ᒣᐢᑯᒋᐸᔨᐃᐧᐣ / shapeshifting together, a solo exhibition by Jasper Pettman.

Jasper Pettman is a nêhiyaw/settler, Two-Spirit/trans visual artist from Secwepemcúl’ecw (Interior B.C.) He has been living on the unceded territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ and lək̓ʷəŋən since 2019, and is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Victoria.

This exhibition is about the interaction between body, identity, and language. What do we do when we don’t have the language to describe our bodies? When colonial terms aren’t able to capture the nuances of our identities? Jasper expresses these frustrations with bold paint strokes on swaths of raw canvas that invite the viewer into an array of fluid, morphing forms. Among the frustration and struggle; however, is a theme of reclamation and celebration.

Monday Night Life Drawing Session

February 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Xchanges

Join us this Monday, February 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. for an evening life drawing session.

Life Drawing is open to anyone in the community – members and non-members alike are welcome. Sessions are currently held on Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fees are $15 and members can use a 20% discount code at the online store or at the door.

These are non-instructed sessions; all experience levels are welcome. It’s a great place to meet other artists and hone your figurative skills in a supportive and creative environment.

Sessions are held in the gallery. Drawing boards, donkeys, and sculpture stands are provided. Participants provide their own drawing and art materials.
