Xchanges Gallery is excited to announce the opening of Dwellings on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Dwellings, a place of residence; a space stuck in thought.
Using oil paint, a predominantly male centred medium, this body of work explores the historically permanent nature of women in relation to the home and the spaces that hold that history.
About the Artist
Zaida Gerritsen is a visual artist living and working in Victoria, BC on unceded territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples. Working with the traditional mediums of oil paint and wood-working, her practice explores the tensions between depictions of domestic environments and the reality of those who existed within them.
