Christine Clark’s series of 16 12″x12″ oil paintings, made over two and half years, encapsulates up to three or four previous versions, each new version either obliterating or enhancing the previous image. Texture can never be entirely erased, and in many of the complete images, previous versions are still visible. Clark’s time-consuming technique attempts to solve the puzzle of memories inherent in each painting through careful deliberation.
