The resulting portraits will range in size from small to life-size. The sitters will be invited to collaborate and incorporate artwork into their own image.Green considers the artistic community of Victoria to be eclectic, diverse and talented yet often isolated and under-appreciated. His project seeks to create new connections between artists, musicians and writers, and to forge alliances between the various artist-run centres of Victoria such as Xchanges, Open Space, the fifty-fity arts collective, the Ministry of Casual Living and arc-hive.During the Residency, the public will be invited to participate/collaborate in creating the artwork. At the end of the Residency, there will be an artist talk/closing reception, where the finished visual works will be on display. There will also be poetry, electronic music and puppetry.Artist’s Bio: Since graduating from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1984, Roy Green has exhibited nationally and internationally. He describes his work as ‘channel-surfing with a paintbrush’, as images and icons co-mingle on the decorated rectangle, creating an oasis of contemplation and visual reverie. Elements of abstraction and text collide with figurative references from art history and popular culture. He has explored photography, painting/drawing, video, installation, and poetry/performance art. He has worked in the artist community as curator for artist-run centers in Victoria and Vancouver. Roy Green has been a founding member of poetry/performance groups such as Jiswopp, the Hermaphrodite Brotherhood and Bad Sculpture. Recently he was a member of painting/drawing collectives the Polka Dot Octopus and the Gang of Four, and currently he is one half of the drawing collective The Kelly Green Collective with PJ Kelly. He also has an electronic music project called Apple Pipe. Songs are available for free download on Soundcloud. |
