“Room at theTop“

We are pleased to welcome back to Xchanges, Amber Lomax to usher in the new year. Her vivid colour pallet and strong lines will grace our walls. In Room at the Top Lomax uses dream imagery to explore the archetype of the witch and its associations with feminine power. A dream in which an unusually tall woman with dark hair and an old fashioned dress is standing in front of a top floor window formed the starting point for this body of work. Inside the forgotten building strange and unusual plants thrive. Room at the Top is an exploration of female energy, creativity, and power.
In a surreal dance between intuition and technical precision Lomax begins each painting by pouring the paint onto the canvas. She then works with the random outcome of the pour, making use of transparencies and layering to convey the fragmentary, ethereal quality of a shifting subconscious landscape. The boundaries between reality and imagination blur, encouraging contemplation and providing an entryway to a world where inner missives are transformed into a vibrant visual narrative
Join us for an opening reception on January 3rd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. She will be giving an artist talk on Saturday, January 12th at 1:00 p.m.
