The Boreal and the Bush

Large-scale drawings by Allan Toews

Exhibition Opening: Friday, May 4th, 7:00 PM
Exhibition runs through Sunday, May 27th, 2012.
Gallery Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 12 to 4 pm

The drawings in this exhibition are based on historical family photographs. They reflect the early memories and experiences of growing up close to the scrub land adjacent to the boreal forest. The artist recalls visiting his uncles’ “bush camps”, where small scale and more primitive logging operations took place. He remembers a land of shacks and newly cleared land where people eked out an existence. His inspiration was the mysterious and enchanting boreal forest of the young artist’s imagination, juxtaposed with the more difficult life of those who worked the land.
