“The Odd Friday’s Collection” A sculpture exhibition by Xchanges’ Odd Fridays Group, and
“Botannic” A Painting and Drawing Exhibition by Sandra Levy
The Odd Fridays is a group of artists who meet at Xchanges twice a month throughout the year to create three-dimensional figure studies in clay, wax or plasticine. We are involved in a tradition that harkens back to Paleolithic times when those ancient peoples created small Venus figures, and that process of modeling the human form continues today.
We enjoy each other’s company and our sessions are filled with humour and harmony. Our models inspire us and our collective energy spurs us on. We are all at any one time the sum of our life’s experiences and through this veil the Odd Fridays Group reveal their varied interpretations of the figure.
Sandra Levy’s recent works “Botannic” are paintings and drawings that reflect her love of plants. Her passion is for growing vegetation. She loves the force that causes plants to stretch out and expand into space and she is moved by the power of their presence. Working in the realistic pictorial tradition allows her to capture botanical elegance and her response to it.
Gallery Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 1:00–4:00 p.m.
Our NEXT Exhibition (Nov. 6th through 29th)
brass tack tact
Evan Locke’s brass tack tact presents works that are an aestheticization of 20th-century modernist painting; a coy expression of materiality and plasticity. A pseudo-constructivist slant reveals the failings and or successes of universalizability in abstract painting. The self-referential paintings work to disclose only their own construction and material, but tease the viewer with a facade of colour and paint.
Gallery Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 1:00–5:00 p.m.
