Landscape Dreams

Photographic Works by Garth Rankin and Maria Tarasoff

The Opening reception will take place on Friday, January 11, 2008, from 7–10 p.m. at Xchanges Artists’ Gallery and Studios, 420 William St. in Vic West.

In this joint exhibit Garth Rankin and Maria Tarasoff use photography to explore landscapes both real and imagined.

Dancing Tree—Costa Rica.

Garth Rankin uses infrared film to capture “a landscape of spaces and places that speak to seduction and desire, of magic and rhythm, a landscape where trees can dance and sunlight floats in the branches.”

Northern Lights—Lake Louise.

Maria Tarasoff uses macro-photography and large format printing to create images that are almost painterly in quality. In her work “discoloured rust spots bcome a field from a romantic childhood memory” and allude to her own fascination with exploring landscape on a philosphical level.

Saskatoonberries.
